In June of 2011 Slater Builders constructed Phase I of Mayfield Senior School’s structural upgrade/remodel of Strub Hall. We created access to the site by cutting a ramp into the hill next to the driveway and using the removed soil to bridge over the area next to the Abbey slab. We completed demolition of the old overhead walkway in the courtyard and the surrounding landscape where the new wall/stairs would be constructed. We drilled Caissons to an average depth of 35’ in an area with limited access/working space and installed rebar cages under the same conditions. We poured the footings and constructed the CMU walls that make up the new exterior wall and support for the new stairs/walkway. Following that work we installed the structural steel elements and poured the slabs on the first floor and the 2nd floor exterior walkway. We also roughed in electrical back boxes in the CMU for lighting/power and roughed in the drains/piping for the 2nd floor deck. We constructed the cast-in place stairs/landing and re-configuring the existing stairs on the side of the building to match up with the new Finish Floor elevation. We finished by stabilizing the access to/from the work site to allow for future construction access in Phase II.
